X-ray System for Processing Blood Components
GILARDONI RADGIL 2

RADGIL 2 — the successor to the old REDGIL devices developed in the late 80s. RADGIL 2 eliminates the danger of isotope release while retaining the advantages of X-ray technology by reducing the amount of radiation exposure associated with the radiation source:

  • Reduces the danger associated with the use of radioactive sources, thus addressing safety and regulatory compliance issues
  • Provides uniform irradiation of blood containers in a rotating chamber
  • Has adjustable voltage levels (up to 200 kV) depending on the application
  • Eliminates the problem of isotope disposal after the product's service life

  • Blood and blood products
  • Thromboconcentrates
  • Cells and tissues
  • Organs for transplantation
  • General processing

AREAS OF APPLICATION
  • Blood banks
  • Hematology institutes and
    research centers
  • Immunological correction clinics
  • Bone marrow transplantation centers, treatment of hematological pathology and leukemias
  • Oncology research laboratories
  • Pharmacology
    and genetics institutes
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The new RADGIL 2 consists of a shielded chamber with a mounting system for the materials to be processed, a special high-frequency X-ray generator, and an LCD user interface for entering procedure data and displaying relevant information.

EASE OF USE AND SAFETY

The control panel has an ergonomic design, is simple, fast, and convenient to use. It features a user-friendly touchscreen and an intuitive menu. Users are identified using a smart card or password with three levels of security: Regular User, Administrator, Technical Support. To ensure the safety of the procedure, the Regular User is allowed to start the procedure but has limited access to setting parameters.

The specially designed rotating chamber allows simultaneous processing of 4/6 containers (up to 1800 ml per procedure), irradiating them as uniformly as possible, preventing platelet aggregation. The chamber can be removed, and the irradiator can be used for other purposes. Additionally, a barcode scanner for containers and a label printer with processing parameters are provided. A large touchscreen monitor displays all system operations: system power-on, operator identification via smart card, heating request, emergency signaling, processing status.

DISPLAYED DATA:
  • kV in the network
  • mA in the network
  • The processing progress indicator displays its progress in percentage. The indicator changes color from black to green as the process progresses.
  • Operator code
  • Temperature inside the chamber
  • Container status (whether it is in the chamber, rotating, or not)
  • Date and time
  • Time until the end of the procedure
  • X-ray exposure usage indicator Process parameter management and report storage is done through a dedicated Ethernet port. The system fully ensures the registration of technical parameters over a long period for a thorough assessment of effectiveness and reliability of results.
  • Alarm sound signals:
  • Signal for system activation
  • Use of X-ray exposure
  • Completion of the pre-heating period
  • Completion of processing

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RADIATION CHAMBER
  • Stationary anode water-cooled X-ray tube
  • Tube current 7 possible kV settings: 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200 kV
  • Anode current 4 possible settings in mA: 5, 10, 15, 20 mA

  • Adjustable processing time from 1 second to 99 minutes.
  • Fully automatic pre-heating
  • 6 additional interchangeable X-ray filters
  • Complete self-diagnosis for quality processing. A dedicated panel allows authorized users to set kV, mA, and time (seconds, minutes) parameters.

ADVANTAGES OF RADGIL 2
  • High performance — processing up to 6 blood containers of 300 ml in 4 minutes at 25 to 30Gy.
  • The use of a rotating chamber for processing blood containers maximizes the uniformity of irradiation.
  • During processing, the blood is mixed to prevent the risk of platelet aggregation.
  • The X-ray chamber can be adapted for processing blood containers or other processing procedures for larger volumes.
  • An additional camera provides visualization of the X-ray chamber on the control screen.
