Contact shock freezing of blood plasma
Freezing is achieved through direct contact with a surface cooled to -75/ -80°C.
For freezing, containers with plasma are vertically lowered into slot-like cells, the walls of which are cooled to at least -75°C.

FREEZING SPEED
Direct contact of the container with the walls of the cells and the power of the compressors minimize the freezing time: <45 min. for 24 or 48 standard containers (nominal volume of 450 ml) with a net plasma content of at least 230 ml and an initial temperature from +25°C to +30°C (tests were conducted with containers holding 260 g of plasma each).
The surface of the cells, made of stainless steel, is smooth, with no sharp edges, ensuring protection against accidental ruptures or punctures of the containers. Any liquid from the cells is drained using tubes connected to a single drainage system of the device.
The uniqueness of KW technology lies in the combination of the advantages of vertical placement of plasma and the horizontal design of the shock freezer!

TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITY
Minimal change in internal temperature during the loading of plasma containers, as cold air always descends.

FREEZING PLASMA IN VERTICAL POSITION

Simplifies loading of containers;
Does not expose the operator to extreme cold from the cells;
Prevents the formation of air bubbles inside the container;
Minimizes the risk of container damage;
The shape of the frozen container resembles a tile;
Requires no maintenance, as ice does not form around the cells and retaining pads;
Absolute guarantee of stable temperature in the range of -75°C /-80°C.

IDEAL PLACEMENT OF PLASMA
In conventional freezers with horizontal shelves, air distribution is not ideal. This leads to containers inside having different temperatures. In contrast, KW technology guarantees identical freezing conditions for each container, resulting in a higher yield of factor VIII and is more reliable.
The resulting container has the shape of a thin parallelepiped, which is convenient for storage.

AUTOMATIC LOADING (Optional)
After closing the lid, the deflectors move automatically, compressing the cells for optimal freezing. (Increased safety and ease of use).

MINIMAL TECHNICAL MAINTENANCE

Does not require defrosting, as ice does not form around the cells and pads;
Allows continuous freezing cycles, as the internal temperature is always -75°C /-80°C.

MAXIMUM ERGONOMICS

Convenient loading height (117 cm);
The operator does not touch cold cells and does not come into contact with cold air.

ENERGY SAVING
Minimal energy consumption due to economical compressors, quality insulation, and the horizontal design of the shock freezer.

PROCESS TRACEABILITY (Optional)
The shock freezer can be equipped with an electronic recorder and a barcode reading device; the user can set a working schedule for a single batch of freezing, determining:
a) individual plasma units;
b) operator;
c) temperature shift curve: all
data is exported in both paper and digital formats, ensuring complete traceability of the freezing of the batch of plasma containers.

QUALITY OF FROZEN PLASMA
Quality is assessed using fibrinogen concentration values, before and after freezing, as well as factor VIII concentration.

Recovery of 96% fibrinogen and 81% factor VIII concentration – these are very good results!

CONSTRUCTION:
The internal chamber is made of 6 cells (in KPFF24B) and 12 cells (in KPFF48B) of AISI 304 stainless steel with a polished outer surface, specially treated for greater durability with rounded corners to maintain cleanliness (available on request in AISI 316).

OUTER CHAMBER:
made of glazed AISI 304 stainless steel; INSULATION that does not contain CFC and HCFC compounds, with a density of 40 kg/m³ and an average thickness of 175 mm.

The doors are mounted on hinges with an ABS-covered lid, automatically balanced.

A triple silicone sealing gasket (completely prevents air leakage), heated by refrigerant and has an unlimited service life.

A compensatory valve helps balance the internal/external pressure, facilitating the opening/closing procedure.

Wheels: 4 swivel wheels for easy movement of the shock freezer in the laboratory. The handle has a very ergonomic design and locks with a key. KW provides a lifetime warranty on the steel parts of the construction.

COOLING SYSTEM: completely hermetic. The cooling circuit features cascade-mounted hermetic compressors (each with a power of over 2 HP), equipped with an MCB (miniature circuit breaker) and a manometer for monitoring condensation pressure (MR). The compressors are very quiet: less than 65 dB, and at a distance of more than 3m less than 55 dB.

EVAPORATION SYSTEM: for high internal temperature uniformity, copper coils that directly expand are thermally connected to the internal surface of the stainless steel shelves.

CONDENSATION SYSTEM: air-type tubular-ribbed condenser with a large surface area; airflow is controlled by an inverter that changes its speed depending on the temperature of the air at the condenser outlet.

THERMAL PROBES (SENSORS): 2 Pt100 type sensors: one is used for temperature regulation, the other in an emergency situation (switches to regulation in case of damage to the main sensor).

REFRIGERANTS: the refrigerants are non-toxic, non-flammable, non-explosive, and environmentally friendly (maximally safe for the environment) do not contain HC/HCFC (ODP=0)-R404A in the first stage, R508B in the second stage.

SAFETY THERMOSTAT: in case of damage to the main regulator, when exceeding the maximum safe temperature (regulated and programmed by the user), it disconnects the device from the power supply.

VOLTAGE STABILIZER (optional): to protect the equipment from irregular voltage spikes, extend the service life, and prevent operational failures, the device can be equipped with a voltage stabilizer.

TEMPERATURE REGULATION AND CONTROL:
Internal temperature (T) regulation is carried out by a digital electronic control system.

CONTROL PANEL:
ON/OFF control panel, which has an LED display with :

  • Temperature regulator;
  • Current temperature – T indicators;
  • Keyboard on the control panel for password entry for security;
  • LED “COOLING”, indicating the activity of the cooling process;
  • LED “ALARM”, indicating temperature exceeding acceptable limits (Min/Max);
  • Alarm signals both audible and visual (OFF switches);
  • TIMER: displays the countdown of the freezing procedure time (necessary for maintaining the temperature regime of blood plasma).

POWER FAILURE:
In case of a power failure, an audible alarm is provided by an independent power source — a rechargeable 12 V dc 1.2A*hour battery (expected battery life — 3 years), which is recharged when power is restored due to power switching.
The audible alarm can be turned off by pressing the BUZZER OFF button.

REMOTE ALARMING:
All alarm signals are integrated and connected to a remote signal repetition unit, which has a plug and socket (SA), with the possibility of user connection (sound alarms and visual signaling devices in the laboratory, remote alarm unit, etc.).

ACCESSORIES:
Separately, it is possible to order the "Open Door" alarm.

RTS TEMPERATURE RECORDING SYSTEM (ordered separately)
Automatic data reading from containers with fresh plasma using a barcode reader or RFID reader.
7 inch touch-screen TFT display with special software compatible with PC and fast system board.
Temperature graphs are built in real-time on the screen.

Functions:
-Reading and recording up to 8 PT100 channels (6 + 2).
-Selection using the probe display for registration; excluding visualization and tracking of the remaining probes, except for the probe in the freezing chamber, which
remains always on.
-Association of barcodes on plasma containers with the air temperature in the circuit/in the simulation container (the system distinguishes between the readings of probes in air and in the simulation container).
-The ability to select along with the barcode the type of container: large 650 ml for plasmapheresis or small 260 ml for whole blood.
-Activation of a clean digital input for synchronizing the start of recording with the start of temperature reduction in the device.
-Enable/disable to stop the freezing cycle when the preset temperature is reached in all wells connected during the test cycle to the RTS temperature recording system.
-Saving cycles/codes on an SD card - Exporting cycles/codes via USB port.
-Reading and printing cycles/codes using the Freezing Tracer RTS program.
-Setting up and configuring an FTP server, built into each shock freezer.
